Artists statement
My work is in the figurative, realist tradition. The paintings sometimes contain many references to gesture and symbols, sometimes using iconography 'out of context' in a gentle, humorous and ironic manner. I work in a variety of media , including watercolours, oils, gouache and acrylics. The work often refers to previous periods of art history including Renaissance ,Counter Reformation and Roman art, but always concerns contemporary life
